Homemade Butter Mixes for Warm Breads

Wine and warm freshly baked bread with melting butter on top – truly, a classic decadent treat! If you are not a good baker, the easy way to turn everyday store-bought breads into spectacular bread servings, is to use your own fancy homemade blended butters as a spread. Hold on, we don’t recommend you milk a cow and ultimately churn your own butter, but you can blend regular butter with all sorts of decadent herbs and spices and here’s how:

Use the following method for all butter mixes listed. Stir room temperature butter in a mixing bowl (a cereal bowl is perfect if you only do 1 stick of butter) with a wooden spoon until the butter is spreadable and soft. Add the relevant ingredients of each butter mix as shown below. Mix thoroughly. Place blended butter in a small container or ramekin, or, form a butter roll or butter ball and wrap in cling wrap or foil for refrigeration. Let it stand overnight. Warm up any bread roll or slice of bread and use your blended butter on top. Or, for a French baguette, slice open entire baguette and spread room temperature butter inside the baguette and then warm in the oven in a deep pan to catch melting butter. Use blended butters within 2 weeks. Keep refrigerated.

THERE IS NO GOLDEN RULE TO THESE BUTTER BLENDS – try your own herbs and spices, add a little more or a little less, double the butter for a large party but keep the ingredients less…   The point with the butter blends are that you have a flavorful ready-to-spread butter to put on warm bread and enjoy with a glass of wine, but off course, you can use these butters for cooking as well as serving with cooked meats. Be inventive and enjoy!
